Xenon - a revolution in design. Specified with certainty. Worn with confidence.

Our Xenon firefighter clothing range is not just an evolution, but a revolution in design in terms of modern day protection for our firefighters. The ultimate high performance protective clothing for firefighters - Xenon is our new “free movement” fire range; a complete collection of structural, multi-layered, multi-functional firefighting clothing. Xenon structural firefighter clothing is designed with the highly advanced GORE® PARALLON™ System that extends the boundaries of firefighter protection to new levels.

Xenon explained:

  • Reduced weight and bulkiness
  • Outstanding levels of breathability and protection
  • Designed to offer incredible flexibility and comfort
  • Engineered with the best fabrics in the market offering class leading protection, comfort and durability
  • Xenon represents a revolutionary step forward for the modern firefighter

We believe Xenon is the brightest light in protective firefighter clothing. Our new range of structural firefighting suits and multi-function rescue kit is inspired by premium outdoor sportswear where reduced movement restriction is a must. These new design ideas are combined with Ballyclare’s experience, over 100 years, in clothing design. Our unique “free movement” cut provides maximum comfort with minimum bulk. All Xenon firefighting kit is available in both male and female designs with a variety of fabric options and colourways.

Xenon firefighter jackets, trousers and rescue suits are suitable for all fire and rescue incidents the modern firefighter faces on a daily basis with a range of mix and match options.

  • The Xenon structural firefighting suit is conventionally used for internal firefighting and rescue activities during emergency response operations
  • The Xenon multi-function jacket is designed for a range of rescue type incidents such as Road Traffic Collisions (RTC’s) and other related rescue incidents such as working at height, secondary incidents and firefighting in the open, principally wildland firefighting operations
  • Ballyclare's new layered system allows the firefighter to ‘layer up’ from a mid-layer rescue jacket worn the same as the multi-function jacket above, but with a separate top-layer jacket that combined provides full level 2 BS EN469:2005 protection.

USING THE GORE® PARALLON™ SYSTEM IN OUR XENON STRUCTURAL FIREFIGHTER SUITS

GORE PARALLON logo

The GORE® PARALLON™ System is a revolutionary solution that extends the boundaries of firefighter protection to new levels. The GORE® PARALLON™ System is lightweight, breathable and waterproof delivering high levels of thermal protection in firefighter Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It reduces the risk of burn injuries and heat stress in wet and dry conditions, creating consistent protection without compromising comfort.

The GORE® PARALLON™ system has created a new benchmark for structural firefighting garments breaking the normally accepted trade-off between protection and comfort by:

  • delivering enhanced thermal protection with moisture management
  • maintaining thermal protection in wet conditions
  • reducing heat stress while optimizing thermal protection in hazardous heat exposure conditions

The GORE® PARALLON™ System has been developed to specifically combat the risks associated with moisture and heat stress by introducing a unique new solution that incorporates a highly breathable Gore thermal barrier combined with a GORE-TEX® or CROSSTECH® Moisture barrier. This is a unique use of two membranes encapsulating a layer of thermal protection that maintains breathability while wicking moisture away from the skin and out through the suit, simultaneously preventing liquid penetration from the outside.

Xenon designed for Comfort

At Ballyclare we recognise that firefighters have to work for prolonged periods in arduous conditions. So we understand it is essential to provide comfortable, breathable yet flexible structural fire kit. Our attention has been to keep the overall weight as light as possible without compromise to protection or performance. Our Xenon range of structural jackets, over trousers and rescue jackets has been specifically ergonomically designed which allows free movement without restriction to the wearer across a wide range of movements.

Xenon Firefighting Suit Tunic Design

The sleeve panelling has been reworked to ensure the cut provides maximum movement with minimum bulk. Full movement at the shoulders has been created to allow the arm to be raised without lifting the tunic and full rotational movement.

Vertical darts at the elbow area provide room specifically where needed to minimise restriction when bending. Reduced bulk at the front of the sleeve creates a true shaped sleeve with minimum bulk keeping the weight as light as possible. Protection and padding in the elbow and shoulder is positioned precisely where required.

The yoke, a shaped pattern piece around the neck and shoulders, seams are set away from the top of the shoulder for comfort with breathing apparatus.

The length of the firefighting jacket works in unison with the height of the trousers allowing sufficient overlap through all movements. The back of the tunic is slightly scooped to provide full coverage when bending without being excessively long.

Xenon firefighter kit collar designThe single zip guard ensures the weight is kept to a minimum whilst offering full protection against extreme wet weather conditions - a construction that is W.L. Gore & Associates Ltd rain tower approved. The single zip guard allows for ease of access to the inner vertical pockets and makes putting on and taking off fuss free. The front fastening zip stops short of the bottom of the tunic, this allows for greater flexibility when crawling or climbing.

The zip guard extends partly onto the collar to ensure maximum coverage at the throat area. This works in conjunction with a throat tab that can be fastened away when not in use allowing the wearer full comfort at all times.

The throat tab is essential to enable the collar to be adjusted to fit all neck sizes when worn with or without a fire hood

Xenon fire fighter suit cuff design

The Gore anti-wicking component at the hem of the tunic and cuffs is fully breathable and supple. The cuff edge is reinforced in part to allow full adjustment without compromise to comfort. This process has been fully tested using the Gore rain tower and has a proven anti-wicking cuffing arrangement to prevent any bypass (wicking) to the internal fabric of the sleeve or trouser hems.

Xenon firefighter suit breathable reflective tapeThe reflective tape used is fully breathable, thus preventing heat build-up in crucial areas of the chest and back.

The clever design and sparing use of Velcro closures will not damage or interfere with other equipment, such as safety harnesses. This has been achieved by only using Velcro® in targeted areas. In addition the carefully measured use of Velcro has been employed to minimise the effects of contamination, such as asbestos.

Xenon fire fighting trouser rear and bracesIn the trouser, fitting darts have been developed to provide shaping across the rear to reduce restriction when bending without the need for excessive bulk. This also enables the reduction in excess material around the legs whilst retaining the over measure required for protection.

The unique brace configuration means the braces are split high at the back ensuring they will stay fixed on the shoulder and will not slide down. The single panel at the back provides exceptional comfort to the wearer across all shapes and sizes. The brace length can be fully adjusted to suit the wearer. The trousers are cut low at the front and raised at the back to allow for full coverage through all movements.

Xenon firefighting trouser knee design

Xenon firefighter trouser fly fastening design

A zipped front fly is situated for ease of putting on. This is teamed with side adjusters to provide excellent fit. The side adjusters mean the waist of the trousers can be fully extended or adjusted for the optimum fit for the wearer and to allow for air flow. No elastication is in this area means reduced bulk.

The same concept as in the elbow area is applied in principal at the knee. Vertical darts are strategically positioned to reduce bulk whilst still allowing room where specifically needed when bending.

The shaping darts and seams are positioned above and below the natural bend of the knee to maintain movement and comfort.

The knee area has flexible padding for wearer comfort when crawling.
