WHY IS OUR GORE-TEX PYRAD® CLOTHING SO SPECIAL?

Heavy rain in the morning. Rising temperatures in the afternoon. Long working days. It is tough to work outside in hard weather conditions. And in some jobs, it is getting even tougher. The risk of an electric arc can put workers into extreme danger every day. Of course, there is norm compliant protective clothing available but those materials are heavy, bulky and absorb rain. In addition, on warmer days, workers tend not to wear them. All this puts your protection at risk. Until now. Arc rated GORE-TEX PYRAD® Garments stay lightweight and comfortable when wet or dry. They are durably waterproof and reliably protect you against the thermal hazards of an electric arc. Maximum comfort combined with the highest protection level

LIGHTWEIGHT. COMFORTABLE. ARC RATED WATERPROOFS

Included in the ProTec range are the very latest technology GORE-TEX PYRAD® Waterproof versions of the ProTec jacket, trousers and coverall, which are made from the advanced, high-performance GORE-TEX PYRAD® Fabric. These provide the same ProTec protection benefits but with the added benefit of reliable, breathable & waterproofing with some of the highest arc flash ratings in PPE, extending the range of working environments and applications where the ProTec range can provide the ultimate workwear solution. Our ProTec GORE-TEX PYRAD® clothing offers a far more lightweight and comfortable solution than bulky, traditional waterproof non-breathable protective clothing. For the wearer they are far closer to the feel of high-end garments made for walking and running, yet they still provide outstanding protection against wet weather and many different types of arc flash hazards. When wet or dry, GORE-TEX PYRAD® garments are up to 20% lighter than other garments with Category III arc protection. This encourages people in high-risk environments to wear them at all times, and still provides the comfort and freedom of movement they need to go about their work.

Designed to be equally comfortable for both men and women, ProTec GORE-TEX PYRAD® Garments are available in hi vis orange and are available as to made to order in two tone Yellow/Navy. Be safe – whatever the challenge.

The technical bit

HOW DOES THE GORE-TEX PYRAD FABRIC TECHNOLOGY WORK?

First, it's self-extinguishing. Upon arc exposure, the GORE-TEX PYRAD® Fabric reduces convective heat flow and stop flames or damage from an arc flash by forming a carbonaceous char with the fabric. Second, heat transfer is reduced. The physical integrity of the fabric is maintained effectively for reduced heat transfer to the skin.

GORE-TEX PYRAD® PERFORMANCE IN DRY AND WET CONDITIONS

Arc rated GORE-TEX PYRAD® Fabric and the garment construction are durably waterproof, windproof and highly breathable and reliably protect electrical workers against the thermal hazards of an electric arc. They stay lightweight and comfortable even when wet. When wet or dry, GORE-TEX PYRAD® Garments are up to 20% lighter than other garments with Category III arc protection. Arc rated GORE-TEX PYRAD® Garments feel less bulky to wear and lead to more wearer acceptance.

”The test jacket dries really well,‘‘ end user quote.

Garment constructions and styles are tested for a full hour in heavy rain to ensure waterproofness and ensure they reach and exceed the rain tower test EN 14360. W.L. Gore & Associates also test durability through industrial laundry tests, approved to ISO 15797 at 60°C.

”The lightness of the test jacket is such a bonus because my harness is so heavy,‘‘ end user quote.

TESTING THE GORE-TEX PYRAD® TECHNOLOGY

Our GORE-TEX PYRAD® Garments provide lightweight, comfortable protection, not only against flame but can also limit the effect of arc flash. This slow-motion video shows a GORE-TEX PYRAD® Jacket being tested in an arc flash situation. These technically advanced Gore fabrics improve thermal stability and thermal insulation by enabling garments to maintain mechanical integrity following exposure to heat and flame threats. The self-extinguishing properties provide a new level of flame resistance for personal protective equipment demonstrating a low percentage of body burn. After exposure, the fabric will sustain a stable char that will not flake, or disintegrate, with minimal shrinkage. GORE-TEX PYRAD® fabric technology is inherent to the fabric and is durable for the life of the product. It is not a flame retardant (FR) chemical treatment or coating, and does not wear off over time

Ballyclare uses this technology in our high visibility, arc protection, waterproof range for railway and electrical utility workers.
